Introduction[edit]

Founded in 2010, by Sarvesh Agrawal,[1] an IIT Madras alumnus, Internshala is a career-tech platform helping college students and freshers get the best start to their careers. The platform provides students with their first real-world experience through internships and fresher jobs[2] and skilling in on-demand areas through online trainings and placement guarantee courses in line with its vision of becoming a career super app for college students.

History[edit]

How it all started - 2010[3][edit]

Sarvesh,[4] founder & CEO, started Internshala[5] as a blog[6] with a mission to bring a culture of meaningful internships in India. And for the first two years, he hired only virtual interns.

This strategic decision not only reflected his forward-thinking approach but also demonstrated his commitment to leveraging technology to pioneer a new era in the internship landscape of India. The early emphasis on virtual internships laid a solid foundation for Internshala's growth and success.

The website launch - 2013[7][edit]

After building a small team, Internshala then launched their website[8] with just one goal - to equip every student in India with their dream internship. And they did it all for free.

This launch marked a significant milestone in Internshala's journey, as it sought to bridge the gap between students and potential employers, facilitating a culture of experiential learning and skill development[9] across India.

Internshala app[10] launch - 2015[edit]

The next big step could not have been anything other than launching their very own Android app,[11] bringing Internshala in the ‘hands’ of the students.

This development brought Internshala directly into the hands of students, enabling seamless access to internship opportunities[12] and resources on-the-go. This expansion into the mobile app sphere not only increased the platform's reach but also solidified Internshala's position as a leading provider of internship solutions in India.

The beginning of Internshala Trainings - 2016[13][edit]

After many successful years as an internship platform, their motivation to upskill the students only increased, and that’s when Internshala[14] kickstarted a new journey with Internshala Trainings.[15]

The introduction of Internshala Trainings[16] underscored the platform's unwavering commitment to fostering continuous learning and professional growth among its users, solidifying its position as a career super app for students seeking to excel in their chosen fields.

The launch of Fresher Jobs - 2020[17][edit]

With Fresher jobs,[18] Internshala embarked on a journey filled with newer challenges, which allowed them to provide bigger & better opportunities to graduates with 0-2 years of experience.

This strategic move opened doors to a plethora of new challenges, enabling Internshala to provide enhanced and more substantial opportunities to fresh graduates entering the workforce.

The launch of Placement Guarantee courses - 2021[19][edit]

With an insight that more than 90% of the graduates in India start their careers with a job that pays less than 3LPA, Internshala came up with Placement Guarantee courses[20] to help the students start their careers in their dream profiles.

These courses are designed to provide comprehensive training,[21] hands-on experience, and direct placement assistance to students, ensuring they are well-equipped to excel in their chosen fields.

Partnerships[edit]

In August 2016, Telangana's not-for-profit organisation, Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK) partnered with Internshala to help students with internship resources and career services.[22]

In September 2016, Team Indus, Google XPRIZE shortlisted entity has partnered with Internshala for college outreach for its initiative, Lab2Moon.[23]

Awards and recognition[edit]

In 2011, the website became a part of NASSCOM 10K Startups.[24] In 2015, Internshala was a finalist in People Matters TechHR 2015 Spotlight Awards under 'Futurism in Recruitment' category.[25]
